Despite the incredibly majestic landscapes, we have become equally fascinated with the array of flora and to a lesser degree the fauna of the area. The latter only because it is generally difficult to see much beyond some of the birds. I should add that photographing fauna is virtually impossible. At least for us! In an area which is typically thought of as dry and barren, there is a surprising variety of plants, and we appear to be visiting at the time of year when most burst into flower. With the help of a local guide we purchased—not exhaustive, but informative—take a look at some of what we’ve seen. More in part two.
